Marin Community Music School opened its doors in October 2009 as String Letter Music School, the community home of Stringletter, publishers of Acoustic Guitar and Strings magazines and their companion websites, as well as instructional and reference books and sheet music.

Founded by San Anselmo resident David A. Lusterman, Stringletter has been based in the Ross Valley since its inception in 1986, and has been a lead supporter of the YES Music Program in Ross Valley’s public schools since YES began in 2000.

In May 2011, the school was reorganized as Marin Community Music School, a California public benefit corporation and has applied for federal tax-exempt status under section 501(c)3. While Stringletter continues to support the school, it now relies on the involvement, support, and resources of the entire community.
