Arina Burcéva
STAFF INSTRUCTOR: GUITAR
Ukrainian-American guitarist and composer Arina Burcéva joined our faculty in August 2011, teaching guitar in a wide range of styles, including folk, flamenco, and classical. A gifted performer and composer, she has performed recitals and taught master classes in the USA, Canada, Europe, and South America and has been featured on public radio and television and in the press.
Born in Sumy, Ukraine, Arina was introduced to classical guitar at eight years of age by Marina Azar. At the age of fourteen she became a two-time laureate of the national Zhinovic Classical Guitar Competition and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Glinka College of Music, where she also studied English and Art History.
Upon immigrating to the U.S. in 2002, Arina won the first prize at the Schubert Club Scholarship Competition. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying with David Tanenbaum and Dusan Bogdanovic, and her Master of Music degree with the Grammy-award winning guitarist and composer Sergio Assad.
