Musical Dreams & Aspirations
We teach children starting at age 8, and adults of all ages, on guitar, piano, bass guitar, mandolin, and ukulele.
If you or your child are brand-new to music, we’ll put you on the right path. If you are coming back after a break of a few months or even many years, we’ll make sure to help you refocus and re-energize your playing. If you’ve been learning on your own and now feel the need for direction, support, and guidance, we’re here to help.
You’ll start by consulting with a member of the faculty to find out about your prior experience, your comfort in different kinds of learning environments, and your goals and aspirations. Do you learn most easily one-on-one with a teacher, or do you prefer a class? Do you want to play music strictly for your own enjoyment, or would you like to perform for others? Are you interested in joining with other students in a band, or do you want to play solo? Are you planning to sing and play at the same time, or concentrate on playing only?
Based on your answers to questions like these, we’ll recommend a weekly study plan that suits your musical interests, your experience, and your goals.
Everyone has different reasons for making music, and those reasons can change over time.
Some of us want to play in the privacy of our own room at home, as a means of relaxing and getting away from our cares and worries. Others dream of standing on a concert stage and delivering a powerful performance to thousands of fans. And some revel in the intricate, wordless power of sitting in a small circle with two or three other musicians, bringing to life the creations of composers who lived hundreds of years ago.
There are millions of ways to make music, and as many reasons for making it.
The job of a place like Marin Community Music School is to help you understand your personal musical goals and aspirations, and then guide you in their direction with expert teaching and mentoring. There is no experience quite like that of working with a music teacher over a period of weeks or months or even years.
We look forward to connecting you with that wonderful teacher and seeing you achieve your musical hopes and dreams.
