What do you teach?
We offer private lessons and small-group classes on a variety of musical instruments in a wide range of music styles.
If you do not see the instrument you are looking for, please inquire. We are often able to match you with a teacher outside our school.
When can I enroll?
We welcome new private lesson students at any time. Students are also welcome to join classes that are already in progress with the consent of the teacher. New classes are offered regularly.
Are you open all year?
Yes. From September through June we only close when the public schools of San Anselmo and Fairfax close. During July and August we are open with a break the week of July 4th.

Why do you divide the year into four Sessions?
Dividing the year into four Sessions gives our students and teachers the opportunity to set short-term goals and prepare music and songs for public performance. Each Session ends with a day of student recitals in a local church or other performance space. There is no need for private lesson students to re-enroll or re-register at the send of each Session; we reserve each student’s day and time as long as they are continuously enrolled.
Do you require students to perform?
Performance is strongly encouraged but not required. Here is the best explanation we’ve ever seen of why it’s great for students to perform.

How do I sign up for private lessons?
Start by filling out this registration form. Our Program Coordinator will arrange a free consultation for you or your child with a member of our faculty.
At what age should my child start music lessons?
There’s no one single answer to this question. Every child develops at a unique pace, physically, temperamentally, intellectually, artistically. Very young children can (and should) learn music through singing and movement. In general, children can start learning to play instruments such as hand drums, keyboards, recorders, and ukuleles as young as five or six. Eight is usually the earliest age to start on guitar or an orchestral instrument.
Can family members study together?
Many of our students register with a sibling or parent (or both) for semi-private lessons or small group classes. Our teachers love to teach families, especially when family members want to make music together at home.
What is a free consultation and how many can one person have?
Before enrolling, you should schedule a free consultation with a member of our teaching staff. At this meeting, you can discuss your musical interests and goals and learn more about our school. You are welcome to bring an instrument and get a taste of our approach to teaching. We ask that you make your enrollment decision after just one such consultation.
